A note on funding for vital indoor PE climbing frames

If you run or manage the PE provision at a primary school, you will most likely be eligible to receive the government’s annual PE and sport premium. This funding – which is allocated to schools with eligible pupils in stages, throughout the academic year – can be spent on any of the indoor climbing frames and rope frames available from us.

These pieces are easily some of the most functional and versatile options in our range. All of them have been developed based on years of research into the activities that benefit children the most, and how these activities can be supported in today’s schools in the most practical and cost-effective way possible.

The amount of funding you receive will depend on how many pupils your school has, according to the latest school census. You can learn more about the PE and sport premium for primary schools on the gov.uk website.

What’s in our range?

Here, we’re going to introduce you to some of the flagship products in our indoor PE collection.

We’re confident that the notes in this article will help you make an informed choice as to which equipment will be the most suitable for your school sports environment – but if you need more technical information or would like to run your ideas past a member of our sales staff, please don’t hesitate to contact us directly.

Trio frame >

Our trio climbing frames have become real school staples throughout the last few decades. These frames are a must-have for educational teams that want to support their children’s development with a secure unit that is available in multiple sizes to suit all key stages.

Our trio frames, that are manufactured from steel, provide a series of climbing panels, plus bracing ladders and floor fittings that enable the frame to be set in T or Y positions. We offer the frame with six different individual panel configurations.

There are plenty of optional extras available to enhance your frame further, too, including beams, ladders, bars and poles that can be fixed to either a wall ladder or used to link different parts of the equipment with nesting tables or trestles. Colourful mats will complete the setup and ensure a softer landing when placed appropriately underneath.

From improving muscle strength and motor movement to supporting better hand/eye coordination and encouraging creative problem-solving, trio climbing frames have an important role to play in the primary sports curriculum. If space and funding allows, we would recommend adding indoor traverse wall panels to your order to further increase the options available to teachers.

Super Nova frame >

Next up for your consideration is our Super Nova climbing frame, which is a much more challenging frame comprised of three pairs of brightly coloured fixed rings, one set of four swivel rings (which can be adjusted to three positions), one foldaway box ladder, and one foldaway double incline ladder. It’s an excellent investment when it comes to supporting the UK’s national gymnastics curriculum.

The standard 3040mm model is suitable for Key Stages 1 and 2, while the slightly higher 3660m version is ideal for Key Stage 3.

As with our other PE climbing frames, we can provide additional accessories for our Super Nova product. These items can be stored horizontally on hooks behind the frames for easy access. We can also manufacture our Super Nova frames so that the frames fold over one another when stored, which is a vital advantage in areas where wall space is at a premium.

Trio Nova frame >

With its smart design and space-saving benefits, our trio Nova climbing frame is guaranteed to keep every PE session interesting. The clever design of the Trio Nova Frame combines the space saving benefits of our standard steel trio frame with most of the features of our Super Nova Frame, so is great for any primary school hall.

This equipment boasts a more complex array of rings, rungs, ladders, and slopes, so it can support the development of pupils’ confidence and risk-taking abilities at Key Stages 1 and 2.

Additional linking ladders, poles and beams can be purchased to increase the range of experiences on offer from this setup when used with a separate wall mounted ladder, offering a huge range of options to the teacher for their lessons.

Best of all, the frame only requires a 2.1m width of wall space for storage. Windows and radiators can be spanned without difficulty.

Rope frame >

Who doesn’t remember trying to scale their school’s rope frames when they were younger? As is often the case, the classics stand the test of time – and these wall-hinged products are still as popular as ever.

We offer rope frames that are constructed from either steel or timber. Their five fixing points can hold ropes, knotted ropes, rope ladders, and/or hand rings and trapezes, offering multiple options when purchasing. Our standard wall hinged rope frames are 3600mm x 3600mm, but these products are also available in a height of 4200mm for use within Key Stage 3 and 4 curriculums.

Rope frames are a practical rope climbing solution in halls that are not able to facilitate overhead trackways. All you need to do is wheel the frame into position and secure it using an easy-to-operate tension device. When the frames are not in use, they can be stored flat against the gym wall.

We do also offer overhead rope trackways if these are of interest – please click here for technical product specifications.

When you’re selecting a frame for your own premises, you need to know that the equipment you choose is going to be strong, durable, and robust enough to withstand constant use. You can rest assured that all the indoor climbing frames available from Universal Services have been rigorously tested to ensure they meet relevant quality and safety standards.
