A quick guide to our service and maintenance solutions

Maintenance of your sports equipment on a regular basis will prolong its performance at its best and help maintain it in good working order for your students throughout its lifecycle.

To assist with this, Universal Services offers a comprehensive suite of servicing and maintenance packages to customers running all manner of sports facilities in schools, leisure centres, fitness suites, military bases, and more.

There is plenty of information available on our servicing and maintenance division on our website – but here’s everything you need to know about our maintenance packages at a glance.

Why do you need to maintain your sports equipment?

As the person in charge of your facility, you will need to ensure your equipment is safe and in good working order, in line with the requirements of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974. But more than this, servicing your equipment and accessories regularly will ensure they are fit for purpose, operating at their optimum, and able to deliver an excellent experience to your users. From a cost perspective, repairing and maintaining equipment is often much cheaper than replacing it like for like – so there are many financial benefits to investing in an ongoing maintenance service, too.

Why choose Universal Services as your maintenance partner?

With more than 45 years’ experience in inspecting, servicing and maintaining sports, PE, fitness, playground and gymnasium equipment, you simply won’t find a more knowledgeable maintenance provider in the country. The standards we set for ourselves are second to none, and we have an excellent reputation for our professionalism, reliability, and speed of service.

Our servicing and maintenance services

Can’t find what you’re looking for? Please contact our team directly for assistance.

For primary schools

Universal Services can inspect, repair, service and maintain all your primary school sports and playground equipment in line with BS EN 1176 and the guidance issued by the AfPE.

We can help you look after your wall bars, window ladder frames, ropes and rope trackways, balance benches, agility tables, vaulting equipment, and even your mats and equipment trollies. A full electronic report will be produced and emailed to your school once the works have been completed.

Please note that primary school maintenance contracts are priced by the hall.

For secondary schools

Our inspections, servicing and maintenance options for secondary schools extends to your sports halls, gyms, trampolines, fitness suites, multi-use games areas, astro pitches and dance studios at your premises. You can rely on us to service any and all of your sports equipment, from wall bars and rope tracks to sports-specific gear such as basketball goals, netball posts, cricket netting, and football and hockey goals – not to mention all the woodwork and metalwork used to support your installations, and, of course, any portable equipment in use onsite.

As with our primary school service, our works are carried out in line with guidance issued by the AfPE. A full electronic report will be produced and emailed to your school once the works have been completed.

For leisure centres

Keep your leisure centre’s sports equipment in excellent working order to encourage your service users to perform at their best.

Our servicing and maintenance service can be adapted to suit the needs of your multi-use space, but will typically cover everything from balance benches, vault boxes and other gym equipment to basketball goals, divisional cricket netting, and portable items such as mats and storage trollies.

A full electronic report will be produced and emailed to your premises once the works have been completed.

For fitness and spinning suites

This service covers any and all equipment in use at your fitness suite, spin studio, weight station, or free weights space. Our maintenance package will typically cover inspecting, lubricating and repairing large hardware such as treadmills, cross trainers, and spin machines – but our SLA can of course be adapted to suit your specific requirements.

A full electronic report will be produced and emailed to your premises once the works have been completed.

For trampolines

Trampolines, mini tramps and spotting decks need to be inspected annually to ensure they are safe and in good operational condition.

We will assess every part of your trampolines, searching for cracked welds, loose connections, broken fixtures, and general wear and tear across your equipment’s legs, side rails, end rails, hinges, roller stands, chains and adjusters, springs, cables, beds, frame pads, and more.

A full electronic report will be produced and emailed to your premises once the works have been completed.

RPII outdoor operational play inspections

Outdoor sports equipment is subject to expected wear from high use, as well as uncontrollable factors such as the British weather.

It’s vital that your outdoor space is inspected at least once a year by one of our trained engineers, who are listed on the Register of Play Inspectors International to give you additional peace of mind.

We can also arrange to inspect your premises every 3, 4 or 6 months, if you feel you would benefit from more frequent maintenance visits.

We will check and repair all manner of outdoor equipment, including (but not limited to) scramble nets, swings, slides, monkey bars, trim trails, and imaginative play equipment. We can also visually inspect your outdoor pitch divider netting, multi-use games areas, and artificial pitches.

Scramble nets & rope repairs

Why buy new scramble equipment when it can be repaired instead? Our team can attend your site, carry out an assessment of your scramble nets, ropes, bridges, and other items, and quote for their timely repair.

If we feel a replacement is more suitable, we can advise on the right equipment and arrange for it to be delivered and installed. Standard lead times on these products are between 3-4 weeks, but they could be provided sooner, depending on workloads in production.

High level services

Universal Services can also provide a full high-level inspection using mobile towers. This service typically includes checking, equipment metalwork/bracketry, rope tracks, basketball hoops, lubricating and rehanging netting.

A full electronic report will be produced and emailed to your premises once the high-level works have been completed.
