The Youth Zone opened in June and, in line with others across the country, offers members aged 8-19 years access to state of the art facilities for 50p entry per session and a small annual charge of £5. Members get the opportunity to be involved in over 20 different session activities per night, seven days a week.
Early in the design process we collaborated with OnSide and their designers to ensure the usual high specification of sporting equipment was included in the design ready for tender. Caddick Construction, who were successful in the tender process, instructed us to collaborate on the detailed design, which included equipment layouts and construction site visits to confirm final datum levels.
Our association with OnSide goes back over ten years when we were awarded the first contract for the supply and installation of sports equipment in the new sports hall at Oldham Youth Zone – one of the first Youth Zones in the country. We have since fostered our relationship with OnSide, which is now in the process of constructing its 14th Youth Zone building as part of the OnSide Network of Youth Zones in the UK.
As well as the sports hall, where we installed basketball goals for match play and practice use along with a multi-sport scoreboard, we fitted volleyball, badminton, cricket and divisional nets, plus spotting rigs, matting and trampolines. We also provided a boxing ring for the boxing gym as well as a number of training aids, such as punch bags and speedball platforms.
